Cate Beauman's Reagan's Redemption (Author blog post)

Cate Beauman is back with the eight installment in her bestselling romantic suspense series, The Bodyguards of L.A. County.  Reagan’s Redemption is on sale now through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Kobo, and more!

Doctor Reagan Rosner loves her fast-paced life of practicing medicine in New York City’s busiest trauma center. Kind and confident, she’s taking her profession by storm—until a young girl’s accidental death leaves her shaken to her core. With her life a mess and her future uncertain, Reagan accepts a position as Head Physician for The Appalachia Project, an outreach program working with some of America’s poorest citizens.

Shane Harper, Ethan Cooke Security’s newest team member, has been assigned a three-month stint deep in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, and he’s not too happy about it. Guarding a pill safe in the middle of nowhere is boring as hell, but when he gets a look at his new roommate, the gorgeous Doctor Rosner, things start looking up.

Shane and Reagan encounter more than a few mishaps as they struggle to gain the trust of a reluctant community. They’re just starting to make headway when a man’s routine checkup exposes troubling secrets the town will do anything to keep hidden—even if that means murder.

Read an excerpt from Reagan’s Redemption:

The front door opened and closed. “Shane?”
“Down here.”
Reagan hurried in, her eyes full of excitement. “How are things going?”
“Good. Faith is clean, eating, and will hopefully be sleeping in the next couple of minutes.”
“I can take a turn. I know I’ve been gone for awhile.”
He shook his head. “We’re fine. Looks like you’ve had a run today.”
She smiled. “Two patients—one ear infection and a strep throat.”
“Good stuff.”
She nodded, sitting on the edge of the mattress. “That’s not the best part. I was talking with Jodi, Josiah’s mother, about her gardens—trying to break the ice a little. She was telling me how she grows some of the best corn around but constantly has trouble with her beans. Apparently, Sue Anne’s family seems to have the opposite issue.” She swiped her hair behind her ear. “Anyway, while Jodi was talking, I got this idea. I was thinking we could organize an evening where families can get together here at the clinic and swap fruits and vegetables for a bigger variety of healthful foods—kind of like a farmer’s market. We can offer some simple snacks and drinks, and I’m hoping I might be able to throw in a few nutrition facts while we’re at it. There are so many kiddos with bad teeth. They’re drinking too much soda.”
“Sounds like you’ve got a plan. Go get ‘em, tiger.” He liked seeing her like this—her eyes bright, her hands punctuating certain words as they spilled from her mouth, caught up in her own enthusiasm.
“I will.” Her smile dimmed as she touched Faith’s toes peeking out from the blanket. “But I don’t know how many people will come.”
“So you won’t have standing-room only on your first try.”
She licked her lips. “They’re afraid.”
He frowned. “Who?”
“The people here. They’re frightened by either me or the clinic.”
“Why do you say that?”
She shrugged. “I don’t know. That was the sense I got when I spoke with Jenny’s mother and then again with Jodi.”
He remembered Mrs. Hendley’s weird spewings about heeding warnings and staying away, but she also seemed like a bit of a whack job. “I don’t know, Doc. When I look at you ‘intimidating’ isn’t exactly the first word that comes to mind.”
“Maybe not to you, but they were certainly uneasy. Maybe I’m trying to make sense of an unusual situation, but I don’t think so. Both women kept looking toward the trees, like they were being watched or something.” She shuddered. “It gave me the willies.”
“We’ll keep an eye on the situation, but things have been pretty low key so far.”
She nodded. “I just really want this to work. I can help this town if they’ll let me.”

The Inspiration Behind Reagan’s Redemption:

I’ve wanted to tell Reagan and Shane’s story for quite a while now, but I kept putting it off, knowing where the weeks of research would take me. Reagan Rosner is a doctor, which is great for her but not so much for me as the writer. Unfortunately, I’m a bit of a hypochondriac who is afflicted with White Coat Syndrome. Typically, I stay as far away from anything “medical” as possible, but for Reagan’s Redemption I had to dig deep and conquer a personal demon or two. There were many days where I cringed, watching how-to videos on IV insertions and blood draws and hyperventilated my way through more than one resuscitation tutorial, but I did it, making Reagan’s character all the more stronger for it.

After the days of dreadful research, I really knuckled down and got to work. I had so much fun with this story. Reagan is kind and dedicated and Shane extremely funny. This couple complements each other well, which is perfect because they’ll face more than their fair share of trouble in Black Bear Gap, Kentucky.

I hope you enjoy Reagan and Shane as much as I enjoyed writing them!

     ~ Cate

Age Defense Eye Cream by Body Merry

As I get older, I find that I am fighting harder each day to keep the wrinkles at bay.  I am constantly on the lookout for products that actually work for distressed skin, so when I was asked by Body Merry to try out their Age Defense Eye Cream, you can bet I was all over that.  After using the product for approximately one month, I saw a substantial difference in the appearance of my skin.  Although I didn't have problems with dark circles under my eyes, puffiness and fine lines remain two of my biggest issues. Could the Age Defense Eye Cream really work like they claimed it would?

When I first received my package, I was impressed with the pump dispenser itself. It is one of the most easy to use and fit very well in my hand. When using the dispenser, you need to be careful not to dispense too much. Usually just one pump is more than enough to cover the areas under and around your eyes.  This is one of those products where a little goes a long way. You can feel safe in knowing that it is well worth the money and will last quite a while. I know this product is intended to treat puffy eyes, dark circles and wrinkles but I also apply it to my neck twice a day.

The Age Defense Eye Cream has a very light and pleasant fragrance.  It doesn't feel heavy or greasy which is a plus in my book. This cream is also very good for those who may have sensitive skin.

I had some high expectations for this Age Defense Eye cream and I was pleasantly surprised with the results.  I would like to thank Body Merry for helping my skin feel moisturized, hydrated and and most of all, for giving me my glow back.

Wave3 Organic Coffee by Roaring Lion Publishing

I am a die hard Starbucks coffee FANATIC but I just found my Starbucks replacement! Move over Starbucks, Hellllloooooo Wave3! I love my coffee strong, robust with a smooth taste to it.  Wave3 is all that and then some! As you can see in the pictures below, these beans were dark in color and had a sheen to them.  By the way, that hearty fragrance when you first open the bag of Wave3 is just a little bit of heaven on earth.  And the bag, as you can see in the image below, is filled to the top.  The white portal you see in the bag is the top, then rest of the package is where it was folded and sealed. Where other companies fill their bags 3/4 full, Wave3 has the customer in mind. You really get all that you pay for.  When I say you get your money's worth, I really do mean it.

This last picture I posted is how fine I ground the coffee.  I find grinding whole bean coffee gives you the freshest possible taste.  I only grind a small container at a time so the coffee lasts longer.  The taste of this organic coffee has tones of chocolate and blackberry.

It is important to know that this is an Artisan coffee. Artisan coffee is coffee beans that are roasted by hand and  roasted daily. So you know without a doubt that this coffee is fresh when ordering.  Here is just a little bit more information (as stated on their Amazon page) on the Wave3 Organic Coffee.
  • ROASTED IN AMERICA: Wave3 is locally roasted in the USA one small batch at a time. We dark roast hand-selected beans to perfection in our proprietary "Third wave coffee roaster." Daily deliveries through Amazon fulfillment assure the best tasting coffee for you, your family or as coffee gifts.
  • CERTIFIED ORGANIC: Every single Wave3 bean is USDA Certified Organic, Fair Trade & Sustainably-grown. Brew up a pot or cup in your favorite coffee maker, coffee dripper, percolator, coffee pot, coffee press, hario kettle or coffee Syphon. (Hario v60 filters, SterlingPro, Tanors Ceramic etc)
  • THIRD WAVE QUALITY: This gourmet french roast style coffee is sensually delightful. Robust yet smooth. A kick ass aroma, perfectly balanced acidity (not flat, low acid), rich textured, full-bodied coffee that's guaranteed to be the best "cup of Joe" you'll ever taste.
  • MORNING NOON & NIGHT: Caffeine? You bet, but it's a pleasant wave of energy without the edginess of conventional coffee PLUS a nutritional kickstart for your body, mind & senses, anytime of the day... be it eight o'clock in the morning or a smooth evening fading to dark. This coffee tastes great in a facebook coffee mug, google coffee mug, cnn coffee mugs, fox news, travel, or any restaurant coffee mug.
  • SUPERFOOD COFFEE: Wave 3 coffee is a genuine superfood (see health benefits in description below). Perhaps we're not famous (yet) like Starbucks, Keurig, Green Mountain Coffee, Coffee Bean Direct, San Francisco Bay, Lavazza, Death Wish, Stumptown, Gevalia, Community, Dunkin Donuts, Bulletproof Butter Coffee, Kicking Horse or other coffee shops, but as our growing coffee fans say: "Take One Sip, Count to 3, Ride the Wave!"
If you order directly from Amazon at the link below, make sure you enter the promo code GETWAVE3 at checkout.  The coupon is good for one free bag with the purchase of 2 bags.  You bet I'll be taking advantage of this coupon.  Give this coffee a try and let me know what you think in the comments below.

For my readers, I was able to score a 50% off one bag of coffee.  It's only available for a limited time, so hurry!  Here is the code:

Garcinia Cambogia Extract by Vita Pure

Garcinia Cambogia Extract is a vitamin supplement that is gaining popularity in part due to the endorsements by doctors like Julie Chen and Dr. Oz. You must keep in mind that products works differently for different people.  I know that with supplements, and just about anything else, it takes time to work in your system. Nothing is immediate.  There is no overnight miracle weight loss and everything worthwhile takes work if you want to keep it off. Your body took time to get into the shape it's in, nothing short of surgery will get you immediate results and even then, there is a recovery time so even that isn't immediate.

In my case, I noticed that within an hour it started working to suppress my appetite.  I usually have a snack of potato chips and then one of chocolate late at night, before bed (Yes, I know that eating late, right before bed is a weight loss no no) but for once I simply had no desire to eat right before bed. I didn't feel nauseous, jittery or hungry. I simply lost the craving for my late night snack.

I also have cholesterol issues not related to the food I eat. It is hereditary and there is nothing I can do by altering my diet to improve my cholesterol. Don't get me wrong, I don't make it a point to eat unhealthy but I will be medication dependent for the rest of my life to keep my cholesterol down.  By taking Garcinia Cambogia, keeping in mind I didn't have blood tests to see if my cholesterol dropped, I just felt better. I didn't feel sluggish at all.

Another recommendation while taking Garcinia Cambogia Extract is to keep active to increase your metabolism. I have back problems myself and there are limited activities I can do.  One activity that almost everyone can do is walking.  Get up every hour and do something to get moving.  Walk through the house, play with your animals or kids, just do something.  For those who are able, try doing some yoga, arobics, running, weight lifting, cycling, just anything to get your blood pumping.

I highly recommend that you check with your doctor to make sure that any supplements do not interact with any prescription medication you may be taking, especially if you are insulin dependent.  Garcinia Cambogia Extract is known to bring down your insulin levels but you can never be too sure when you are a diabetic.

Here is where you can buy it on Amazon

I am one of those consumers who grabs up anything I can if it means that it will help me fight the aging process.  The first way to fight aging skin (other than drinking plenty of water) is to keep your skin moisturized.  I live in Las Vegas, NV so with all this dry air, I'm constantly on the lookout for the next best lotion.  Well, I finally found a product that really works.

Upon opening the package, the first thing I fell in love with was the packaging of the lotion.  The pump is easy to use and dispenses just the right amount.  The bottle fits comfortably in your hand and once the lotion is put on the skin, it does not feel greasy or smell bad.  It actually has a very light fragrance.

Pure Natural Raspberry Ketone and Pure Garcinia Cambogia sold by Salon911 - Review

First let me say that no one pill will miraculously make you lose weight quickly.  It is very unhealthy to do so.  The recommended amount of weight loss per week is approximately 1 to 2 pounds.  With that out of the way, let me continue on with my review.  Salon911 supplied me with both Garcinia Cambogia as well as Raspberry ketone supplements.  Let's look at each product separately.

Garcinia Cambogia is a very hot product right now.  I took a trip into GNC to see if this product was popular or not, what it worked well with and just as a way to become more familiar with the product.

Garcinia Cambogia is a tropical fruit also known as Malibar Tamarind.  The active ingredient that is used for weight loss is actually found in the fruit's rind.  It has been known to lower insulin and cholesterol levels as well as raise the brain's serotonin levels.  Please, please, please keep in mind that if you are taking Garcinia Cambogia along with insulin medication, your insulin levels could get dangerously low so before taking any medication, check with your doctor to make sure that it's ok.  As for the cholesterol levels Garcinia Cambogia has been known to lower triglycerides and LDL (which are the bad cholesterol ) and raising your HDL (which is the good cholesterol).  I have high cholesterol issues, so when I read that it could lower cholesterol, that was a determining factor in me choosing to review this particular product.  I also chose to review it because it raises the serotonin levels in the brain which causes you to feel less hungry while helping to stabilize your mood.  It is important to note that Garcinia Cambogia may interact badly with the following:

  • Asthma and allergy medicications such as Accolate and Singulair
  • Diabetes medicines, both pills and insulin
  • Iron for Anemia
  • Pain Medications
  • Prescriptions for psychiatric conditions
  • Medications that lower cholesterol
  • And finally, Warfarin, a blood thinner.
I would just like to note that I am on 3 of those medications and I had no bad reactions with Garcinia Cambogia.  In fact, I did feel a pick up in my mood once I started to take it regularly. Yes, I am one of those people who has a hard time trying to remember to take a pill.  However, once I became consistent with it, I felt a big difference.  I did lose about a pound during the first week and have lost about 2 pounds since then.  I have been taking it for about 3 weeks now. It's a struggle for me to break my bad eating habits and even eating a lot of pasta's and breads I was able to lose a few pounds.

I took the Raspberry Ketones in conjunction with Garcinia Cambogia, also made by Summit Nutritions. As with the Garcinia Cambogia, Raspberry Ketones are also a sought after supplement. Raspberry Ketones, as you have probably guessed by now, come from a chemical found in raspberries. Raspberry Ketones are a fat burner and appetite suppressor. Straight out of the bottle, Raspberry Ketone capsules have a very pleasant raspberry aroma as well as taste. Raspberry Ketones are also thought to bring down the "bad" cholesterol as well as raise the "good" cholesterol. I can't find any interactions that Raspberry Ketones may have with any medications but again, it's always good to check with your doctor just to make sure. This supplement was one of the more pleasant to take. The moment I opened the bottle, there was the pleasant smell of raspberries. There was even a hint of raspberry when I set them on my tongue to swallow. I did receive a natural surge in energy and I felt as though my mood was elevated somewhat..  When looking for Raspberry Ketones or Garcinia Cambogia, this is what the bottle I had looked like:

Make sure when you are taking both the Garcinia Cambogia and Raspberry Ketones that you do so on a balanced diet.  I would love to see you lose more weight than I did.  From here on out, I plan to be more vigilant about eating healthy so that I can get the maximized effect from these supplements.

Both of the products I was given are sold by Salon911. They've been a great company to work with.  Click here to check out their storefront on Amazon.  I received my order very quickly and they checked with me to see if there was anything else they could do for me. They have wonderful customer service as well as a lot of great products.

I received both of these products at no cost to me in exchange for my honest review. Keeping my readers in mind, I will only post about products I both enjoy and that work for me.

Ahoy Gum Drop Audiobook by M.M. (Miss Mae) Narrated by Owen McCuen

Blurb:
What if - What if you no longer could find your favorite chocolate in your candy store? What if the store informed you they may never get in a new shipment? Imagine the horror, the chaos, the wailing and gnashing of teeth, not to mention your impending foul-mood. And then imagine this scenario happening on a worldwide scale! What can be the problem? What can be the solution? It’s up to the brave (?) adventurer Sir O. Yuri Wiseguy-eh and his mishaps from Gum Drop Island to boldly (double ?) go where no one has gone before. Yes, they must enter the realm of the forbidding and humuggity shrouded land called Moldy Corners. The next question, dear listeners, is - can what happens in Moldy Corners affect you?

Review:
When I was growing up, we  Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  For this generation, there is  the magical and mesmerizing story called Ahoy Gum Drop written by M.M. All too often, we try to categorize books by labels such as "children" or "YA". Why can't we have a category for families?  The entire family will get much enjoyment with fanciful characters such as Sir O. Yuri Wiseguy-eh, Mort the Mothball Millionaire, Moose and of course who could forget I.B. Nosey?

There are so many different things I loved about Ahoy Gum Drop. From the quirky characters to the recap of previous chapters, the listener is captivated by both the story line as well as the narrator's hilarious portrayal of the characters. When my kids were little, at bedtime I used to read a chapter each night to them.  Some of the details of the story were lost because my children would forget what may have been read the previous night.  With Ahoy Gum Drop, M.M. makes sure that in the event this story is told over several days, there is a recap with every new chapter.  When I say this is a family book, I truly do mean it.  Although written with children in mind, there are some lines that only adults will understand.  Think if you will, about cartoon movies you have seen with your children.  You could connect personally with the movie because some of the meanings were only understood by adults.

I have previously reviewed Ahoy Gum Drop as an ebook.  I was thrilled to be able to review the audiobook as well.  Ahoy Gum Drop is a humorous and compelling read on it's own as an ebook or print book. However, when paired with narrator Owen McCuen, Ahoy Gum Drop transforms into a standout comical humdinger of a book.  Owen McCuen thrills with the varying accents of each distinct character. Mr. McCuen knows how to attract the listener, make them feel welcome as well as a part of the book.  I look forward to experiencing more of M.M.'s work (she is already a favorite of mine) as well as Mr. McCuen's.  This unexpected duo make magic happen.  Ahoy Gum Drop is a unique and addicting read that will bring back the silly and child in grown ups as well as help us to realize that we should all stop our busy lives long enough to take family time to enjoy this book together.

Watch a YouTube video of Ahoy Gum Drop here.

The next question, dear readers, is - can what happens in Moldy Corners affect you?

Review:
Introducing .... I.B. NOSEY!!!! What a simply fascinating character I.B. Nosey is. Ahoy Gum Drop isn't your typical children's storybook. Children's minds will be stimulated through larger vocabulary words which makes it not just a story book but an educational book that lets them have fun while learning. Readers and listeners alike will find each character more quirky and zany than the one before. Join the trials and tribulations of characters such as Yuri, Cuddles, Speck, Spang, Heathcliff, Moose and a host of others in their magically enchanting world that is sure to leave readers giggling constantly. Ahoy Gum Drop is a fantasy in which children and parents alike will find an intriguing and captivating place to visit. One particular characteristic of this book that I found charming was at the beginning of each chapter, there was a summary of the chapter before. You just don't typically find that in a book but what a perfect way for parents to remind little ones where they left off the previous day. For a fun filled, exciting read, I highly recommend Ahoy Gum Drop for adults and children. The print version would be the perfect keeper for any storybook shelf. I can't wait to read more from these adventurous characters.

Interview with Susan Mallery & Her Cheerleaders

Tell us about ONLY MINE.

Each book in the Fool’s Gold series is a standalone novel, meaning that you won’t get lost if you read them out of order. Fool’s Gold is a town facing a serious (and seriously funny) problem – the 2010 census revealed that the town is suffering from a man shortage. Fool’s Gold has become the punch line of countless jokes on TV talk shows, which makes the strong, independent women in town pretty darn crabby... and which attracts the attention of a sleazy TV producer.

In ONLY MINE, it’s Dakota Hendrix’s job to interview potential contestants. After she recommends two handsome young twins for the show, the twins’ gorgeous, stern older brother demands that she declare them unfit. Finn Anderson wants his brothers to return to college. Finn has raised the boys since their parents died, and he won’t consider his duty done until they graduate. While Finn does everything he can to strong-arm or coerce his brothers back to Alaska, Dakota is struggling with a problem of her own, a problem so big that it will change the course of her life.

You can read free excerpts here. You’ll find lots of freebies and fun bonus content there, too!

How did you come up with your Fool's Gold series?

I knew I wanted to create a series based on a place. In the past, I’d written series based on a family, so once I ran out of siblings, I ran out of stories. Readers kept asking me for more in every series. They loved that sense of connection, and they wanted it to go on. Debbie Macomber was the one who suggested I stop writing about families and start writing about a place. With a place, the story possibilities are infinite. (Debbie Macomber is like my Mayor Marsha – I never say no to Debbie! She’s a genius.)

The place itself needed to have a strong identity. As I was brainstorming the series, I heard a story about the then-upcoming 2010 census, about everything a town can discover about itself from census results. I wondered, “What if there was a man shortage?”

So Fool’s Gold was born… the town with the man shortage. But instead of making the women eager to get more men to town, I tweaked reader expectations and made the women strong, self-sufficient, and kind of crabby that anyone would think they need more men. They can run the town just fine without men. Which means that any men who do move to Fool’s Gold have to earn the right to live there . . . and they have to earn the hearts of the women they love.

www.FoolsGoldCA.com is my gift to readers who have been so loyal to me. I wanted to create an experience for readers that goes beyond the books. On FoolsGoldCA.com, readers will find amazing bonus content such as between-the-books updates, stories and pictures from the characters’ weddings, Fool’s Gold magazines, a map of town, and funny ads from local businesses… I could keep going, but the truth is, you have to see it to get it. Fool’s Gold is the Land of Happy Endings!

What draws Dakota and Finn to each other?

At their core, Finn and Dakota both value their families more than anything. Finn thinks he wants to be done with his familial duty. He wants to get his brothers through college so he can return to his days as a carefree bachelor, but he will learn that he’s not that guy anymore. Somewhere along
the way, he grew up. At heart, he’s a family man.

You love to write about families, such as the Hendrix triplets. Why?

I was an only child, so I love writing about the big, boisterous family that I never had. Triplets are an extension of that – three sisters who have been together since birth. Each of the triplets has her own personality, but the experiences these three women have shared throughout their lives make them as close as it’s possible to be.

You’re known for both the depth of your characters and for your humor. Do both come naturally to you?

I think men and women falling in love with each other is inherently hysterical. Who came up with that bright idea?! Men do everything they can to avoid emotion, and yet they’re irresistibly drawn to women, who overflow with emotion. When I get teary-eyed over a commercial, my husband looks at me like I’m completely nuts. There’s this constant push-pull between men and women that never really goes away, and it will always be funny to me.

Most of my storylines are not funny in and of themselves. My characters deal with some very serious issues in their lives, but their ability to find the humor says a lot about their resilience. I like people in real life who can laugh at themselves, and I like that in characters, too.

Do you plot your books before writing?

I do a lot of plotting in advance, which means I can write the story quickly, which further means that I don’t lose interest. For me, the creative rush is highest during the plotting process, and the actual writing of the book is more about getting the story down on paper. I’ve tried
writing without a plot, and it just doesn’t work for me. I enjoy the aspect of surprise, but I dread revisions. Even when a book is thoroughly plotted, though, the characters can sometimes surprise me. I was sweetly surprised by a secondary romance in ONLY MINE.

How many more Fool’s Gold books will you write?

There will be at least seven more books after this year’s. In 2012, three delicious cowboy brothers and their younger sister will move to Fool’s Gold. And in 2013, I think I’m going to establish a bodyguard academy on the edge of town. After that, who knows? If readers clamor for more from Fool’s Gold, anything’s possible. (You can let me know you want more by writing to me at
www.facebook.com/susanmallery, www.twitter.com/susanmallery, or www.goodreads.com/susanmallery.)

Are you working on anything new outside of Fool's Gold?

BAREFOOT SEASON, my next women’s fiction novel, will be out in April 2012 and will launch a new series set on quaint Blackberry Island. The story is about two former best friends who form a turbulent truce to save the inn they both love.

The recent Buzz has been that you have your own team of Cheerleaders for the release of Only Mine and the books to follow.  How did the idea come about?  What is their purpose?  How did you choose the squad?

Often, I hear from excited fans who discovered me because someone put one of my books in their hands and said, "You have to read this!" It moves me. And this year, it inspired me to create the Fool's Gold Varsity Cheerleading Squad. I decided to form a team of avid readers to share with the world their love of Fool's Gold, the Land of Happy Endings. (Fool's Gold is the setting of my ongoing series of romance novels. It's a quirky small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Fool's Gold is dealing with a man shortage. This year's stories center around the Hendrix triplets. They are ONLY MINE, ONLY YOURS, and ONLY HIS.) The cheerleaders will earn lots of prizes along the way for doing what they love - talking about books - and I will dedicate a book next year to the grand prize winner.

I invited my fans to "try out" for the team by sharing three creative ideas for spreading the word about Fool's Gold. I was overwhelmed by the response! More than 500 fans tried out in the first few days, with some pretty amazing ideas. As I read through their applications, their enthusiasm brought a lump to my throat. I wish I could have accepted every one of them and had a cheerleading battalion that could take over the country. Unfortunately, I
only had 25 advanced copies of ONLY MINE to give away. Selecting the final 25 was a daunting task. I wanted to get a good mixture of people who emphasized online ideas and those who emphasized in-person ideas, such as standing in front of a bookstore on release day, wearing a sandwich board, ringing a bell like the Salvation Army. (Yes, she got picked. Hi, Stacey!) I also wanted cheerleaders from all across the U.S., so geography played a
role.

I don't know if it was pure luck or my discerning genius, but I am thrilled with the cheerleaders who made the team! They've handed out bookmarks, talked to people at the bookstore, called long distance friends. And now they're doing a blog tour to tell the world how much they love Fool's Gold!

Where can readers meet the squad?
The cheerleaders are pictured on my Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/SusanMallery?closeTheater=1. You can also join my Goodreads fan page and my goodreads group to discover other readers who love my books! (Including
the cheerleaders!)
Will your squad answer some questions?
They would love too!!  Readers please meet the squad…

Why did you try out for the squad?

Angela: Honestly? Because I thought it would be fun. I LOVE Susan's books... I've been a fan of hers for years. I've met some really great people through FB author pages and knew I'd enjoy meeting and working with a crew who enjoyed her books. It's hasn't really felt like a competition.... more like a group of women with similar interests. Already, I've met more people than I imagined and it's only been going on for a week!

Marilyn: Because I missed the last try out!

What is your favorite Fool’s Gold title?

Kelly: Sister of the Bride, which was part of the Summer Brides anthology. I could relate to Kate being a complete tomboy and sportswriter myself.

What's your favorite book by Susan?

Beccie: My favorite book of Susan's would have to be from her Buchanan Family series, "Sizzling".  I love Reid's character and how he falls in love with the smart and understated Lori.  I guess I see myself in Lori and that's why I love it.

Marilyn: Accidentally Yours and Sunset Bay

How did you discover Susan for the 1st time?

Stacey: I am an avid reader of the Harlequin Desire line and found Susan that way.  Her “Millionaire” series was my favorite.

Jen: My Aunt had given me a stack of books & Susan’s was included…I can’t remember the title now (of course), but it was with the ex football player & a bakery.

What made you an avid fan of Susan's books?

Heidi: Susan's writing made me an avid fan!  I love the way her writing can pull me into a story, make me feel part of a small town, and fall in love with the characters.  As I began to research her list of back-list, trying to find more to read, I found that Susan is a very fun and out-going person.  The creativity behind Fool's Gold website is brilliant and has me wanting more and more from this small community of people.  I love how Susan tries to connect with her readers through her website and blog...the videos, yummy recipes, and I love the fun stories and pictures of her dog, NIKKI.

Jennifer: Her writing is humorous with a great story...she is a one of a kind author.

What's it like to be on the squad?

Charlotte: To be on the Varsity Cheerleading squad with the 24 other women who love Susan as I do is AWESOME, we all share a love for Susan and her novels.  We sit and wait with baited breath for the next installment.

Marilyn: Fantastic

Have you read only mine yet?  What do you think?
Angela: Yes! LOL... and I loved it!! My daughter adopted a child just this year. She has 2 children, but we nearly lost both of them with her second child. Her husband refused to let her bear any more children, so they decided to adopt. The months and months of filling out paperwork, and it happened just as suddenly for her as it did for Dakota. I really liked how strong Dakota was--she never whined or complained about the hand that Life dealt her. Finn was a hero who was easy to respect. Even though he comes off strong in the beginning, you know WHY he's the way he is. He's like the parent, but not. And so close to feeling like he could do "his" thing.

Why should readers buy this book?

Kelly: Because it will make you smile. This is the perfect escape from reality with some wonderful characters read.

Marilyn: Why not?

Any favorite quotes from the book?

Angela: "You're not funny," her mother snapped. "If you think this is humorous, you're wrong. I'm in crisis here. A really, really big crisis. I feel sick to my stomach, my head hurts, I'm retaining enough water to sink a battleship. I'm a woman on the edge. You need to respect that."

Charlotte: "Mom I'm pregnant!"  bhahahah I would have been killed but her mom embraced her and wanted to share in her love.

Be honest... What's Susan really like?

Jennifer: She is humble and an absolute doll!!

Jen: She’s amazing!  I never thought she would be as involved with our squad as she has been.  Everyone and I feel I need to keep up & stay on top of those.

Tiffany: Supportive, Caring, Giving, Friendly, Creative, and a great author! She is someone you would want as a friend in good times and bad. She really has been so kind and supportive of all of us even when it has nothing to do with her or her books! She just cares.

Day 3: Interview with Dianne Miley

Two days down and two to go. I'm loving being able to spend the time with this series because it has a special place in my heart. Today we are concentrating on Violets for Vanessa. Although I love all the books, this one is my favorite. I don't know if it's because I started the books all out of order and read Vanessa's story first, if it's because Violets were my grandmothers favorite flower or because Dianne held a contest for this particular book and this is the one I won. What a great contest that was. We had to guess what Toby Keith song would go along with the book. I took me forever to guess that one. lol. OK, on to the interview.

Val: If you had the chance and could meet one of the hero's from your books who would it be and why?

Dianne: That’s tough because I love them all, but I do have a soft spot for Chad because he makes me laugh – and his personality is modeled after my son.

Val: Hey peeps, guess who is in Violets for Vanessa? Oh yes, the oh so yummy Chad.

Val: Myrtle, the gossiping old cranky woman, is a character that intrigues me.  I can't wait until she gets what's coming to her.  Is there a reason why karma hasn't kicked her in the butt yet?

Dianne: In Violets for Vanessa, Myrtle learns a difficult lesson. Her manipulating ways bite her in the butt, although maybe not as hard as we’d like! Her self-inflicted misery and loneliness made her a bitter old woman, but as last she learns her lesson. In Sunflowers for Sarita, we will find that Myrtle really has turned over a new leaf. Both God and the town have mercy on her, just as God forgives us when we turn from our sins and trust in Him.

Val: Wow, you were very nice to Myrtle. That's one character I would have had a lot more fun with. lol

Struggling to be free of her abusive father, Vanessa Gallagher cannot resist handsome contractor Chad James. Although she fears being controlled by another man, his kind encouragement comforts her and his kisses leave her wanting more. When Mr. Gallagher meets his doom at the bottom of a cliff, police suspect Vanessa’s mother. Will Chad help absolve her? Who will uncover the truth in an unexpected turn of events? And will Vanessa ever choose love over independence?

Day 2: Interview and Giveaway with Dianne Miley

Welcome to day 2 of our interview with Dianne Miley. So are you loving this series yet? I know right? It's one of my faves too! Yesterday we got to know a bit about Ms. Miley's background and Book 1 in the Crystal Falls series, Lilacs for Laura. Today is on to book 2, Roses for Rachel. But first let's throw a few questions at Ms. Miley.

Val: Every author is different and I know this question is asked of authors all the time but I am dying to know, do you plan your books out or do you just go with whatever comes to mind?

Dianne: I have a basic outline, but once I begin writing, the story takes on a life of its own and I go with it.

Val: It must be nice to be able to live a whole story line in your mind. You are very talented in the character and plot development of the your stories.

Val: I love all of your characters but the one that most intrigued me was Elliot in book 2, Roses for Rachel. Why did you make him so different?

Dianne: After creating Brett, I wanted a completely different hero just to keep the series fresh and interesting.

Val: Readers, wait until you meet Elliot. It will make you look at certain men in a very different light.

Val: Tell us what you were thinking when you wrote Roses for Rachel.

Dianne: Who should the stalker be that the reader would never guess? How can I fool the reader to think this other person is the stalker? What reaction in Elliot will melt Rachel’s heart and dissolve her hesitancy toward him?

Thanks for taking the time out to answer those questions Dianne. Readers, you can find Dianne at www.diannemiley.com

Day 1: Interview and Giveaway with Dianne Miley

I have the honor today of interviewing one of my all time favorite authors who happens to have one of the best series out there in Christian fiction. First, let's get to know Dianne Miley and then we'll get to the giveaway. Let the interview begin!

I grabbed this part from Ms. Miley's site which plays a lot into her books as you will be able to tell after reading this series of interviews with her.

"I grew up in northeastern Ohio as the oldest of four children and lived there most of my life. Recently, my husband and I moved to coastal South Carolina. We love the balmy weather.

Growing up, I always loved to write. I began with poetry in second grade. During high school, I wrote for the year book and school paper. I took creative writing classes because I enjoyed making up stories. Now I flex my imagination through inspiring tales of romance and mystery. Best of all, I’ve found a way to share my faith through fictional characters in a fun romance.

At age 16, I began a romance of my own. I met Chip and we’ve been together for over 25 years now. We’re thankful for a happy marriage – complete with faith, conflict, plot, and all kinds of characters!"

Val: I know you and your husband Chip have been together for 25 years. would you mind sharing how you met?

Dianne: We met on a blind date! No kidding – I was 16 and he was 17. During the summer after 10th grade, a friend fixed me up with her boyfriend’s buddy, Chip. Although we went to different schools, we were high school sweethearts. We’ve been together ever since.

Val: Awwwwww, a real life true love story, I love those and you two are one of the reasons I still believe in love!

Val: In your first book in the Charleston series, Lilacs for Laura, what were your thoughts as you were writing this book?

Dianne: When am I going to get this right? Do I really have to make bad things happen to my lovely characters? How fun would it be I kept Jake’s killer a mystery? And finally… I can’t wait to write Rachel’s story because I written this one fifteen times!

Val: I loved Lilacs for Laura because A) I love Nascar and B) that is one hunky hero you have there in Brett.

Val: Before I get into the blurb and giveaway, can you tell us where to find you online?

Dianne: Right now you can find me at www.diannemiley.com. I hope to become more active with social media in the future.

Val: So there you go my faithful followers, just click that linky to get a hint as to what tomorrows interview will be about. :)

Laura James loves working in her family’s flower shop, but has to ward off advances from her brother-in-law. She distrusts men but cannot deny her attraction when she stumbles into Brett Mitchell. Drawn to one another despite their conflicting goals, Laura longs for a secure future in her Ohio hometown, while Brett yearns for adventure and an escape from his abusive father. When he lands a NASCAR job in North Carolina, Laura fears she will never see him again.

Devastated, she withdraws just when she needs help most. Her brother-in-law is murdered and all evidence points to Laura. Brett knows members of her family, as well as the town gossip share motive and opportunity. Will he return to help clear her? Who will reveal the killer in a shocking twist? And will Laura ever find security in love?

Now on to the giveaway. To enter to win a print copy of Lilacs for Laura, please follow this blog, ask Dianne a question or leave a comment on her post and don't forget to leave your email address so I have a way to contact you should you be the lucky winner.
